When a tug tows or pulls a barge they must display certain lights that identify what they are, and how … they are proceeding. knowing the difference is very important! a tug towing a barge at night might have several hundred feet of cable between the two vessels-cable that is impossible to see.. I should have proper navigation lights for rowing at night. i'm probably illegal by all standards of navigational safety when i row at christmas time at night. there was a thread about 5 years ago on this topic (this forum), but it didn't seem conclusive and is probably outdated with new led technology.. Having this light available to display as needed is the minimum required and should be sufficient on most waters restricted for use by other paddlers. if you want to mount a light so fellow paddlers can see you while you are paddling, you also must consider your night vision and the night vision of fellow paddlers..
